A Practical Guide to Deliverance: Neal
Lozano
Including
prayers from House of Healing Den Bosch
The door has five locks,
each requiring a key. As a believer
in Christ, you have all the keys you need to be free from the influence of evil
spirits. These keys will open to you the abundant life promised by Christ and
close the entryways through which evil spirits gain access to your life.
Temptation:
Temptation
is not just a struggle against personal weakness, but is in fact a strategic,
demonic campaign to derail us and to destroy our faith.[1]
Trusting God:
Trusting
God, along with resisting temptation, repenting of sin, renouncing the works of
the devil and forgiving those who have harmed us, accounts for ninety-eight percent
of our deliverance. Though, many of us do not find complete freedom until
we have gained the last two percent: When we command the enemy to leave.[2]
The
level of influence of evil spirits in one’s life is often rooted in one’s early
experience or lack of experience of dad, mom and the traumas of life.
Deliverance is no more about the devil than Exodus was about Pharaoh.
Deliverance from evil spirits removes obstacles so we may receive, in Christ,
the Father’s blessing.[3]
Evil
spirits gain influence in a life through doorways that are opened, often in
childhood, by us or by other people. Through these doors Satan’s lies and
deceptions limit our access to the blessings of the Kingdom of God.[4]
“And
so, I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on
seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to
you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to
everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” Luke 11:9-10
Prayer:
Lord
Jesus, come and get me. Capture my heart[5] with your Love. I do not
have the strength of Jacob; give me the courage to ask for the freedom and
blessing that are mine in Christ Jesus.
Refusal to let go of guilt:
Refusal
to let go of guilt is often the work of pride which deceives us into thinking
we must redeem ourselves. We try to make up for our sins by confession, remorse
and self-accusation. As we hang-on to guilt, our pride holds us back from
receiving God’s forgiveness and mercy.
Bound by lies:
Satan
is the master of lies. The only thing that breaks a lie is the truth. John 8:32 “the truth will set you
free.” When we build on a foundation of self-reliance,
we develop a way of thinking that protects
the lie we believe. This system of thinking is built the same way as a bird
builds a nest.: one straw at a time. This basic deceptive way of thinking is:
“I have to be good enough to deserve or earn God’s love.”
The spiritual world:
Part
of the problem is that the demonic world has been hidden. We do not understand
it, and we tend to be afraid of that which we do not understand. Fear is one of
the biggest obstacles in our cooperation with the Lord to set us free. The
images of evil spirits lurking around us or inside of us trigger one of our
most fundamental fears: There is something wrong with me that I cannot do
anything about. Like Adam and Eve, our response is to hide.[6] Talk of evil spirits can
bring up fears as “Do I have a spirit?” We picture a foul little demon hiding
in us in a secret place. Frightening! Gross! That is partly true,[7] but the truth is the
spirit is no fouler (unclean) than the sin it hides behind. Many Christians
allow for demonic activity in theory but think it has no practical consequences
in the life of a believer. They believe demons can only influence those who do
not know Christ. Can a Christian “have a demon,” be under the influence of a
evil spirit or have an area of life in which he or she has lost freedom? Yes.
Most believers will admit that certain areas of their lives are not submitted to
Christ. They are holding something back. In these areas the devil is still able
to exert his influence and hold people in bondage. Afraid of the devil and not
secure in the love of Jesus, many are robbed of the authority they have in His
name.
Demonic manifestations:
Over 95
percent of the people we have prayed for have no physical manifestations of
evil. I believe powerful manifestations have more to do with the level of
infiltration than the power of the demon, how much of the person’s life and
personality has been entwined with demonic presence. Though demons carry
different level of strength[8], their power is
insignificant compared to the power of the risen Lord. Focusing on cases of
violent manifestations keeps many from seeking deliverance, which I am sure
does not bother the devil, who loves to remain hidden.[9]
God’s plan and Satan’s plan:
Satan
has a plan for your life, but he needs your cooperation for his plan to
succeed. God also has a plan for your life. If we have built our lives on the
foundation of a lie, we need Jesus (the Truth) to expose that lie. New life in
Christ continues to bring us in deeper conversion. It turns us from the power
of Satan to the power of God,[10] from the plan Satan has
for our lives to the plan God has established before the foundations of the
earth.[11]
Prayer:
I
love You, Lord. Come bring your Light and expel the darkness. Bring your Truth
and expose the lies. There are many things in me that keep me from giving and
receiving love. Cleans me by your Blood. Set me free from those lies that keep
me from knowing your Love. I want to walk in the light on the path You have
chosen for me.[12]
The 5 Keys
Legalism and self-righteousness:
“Legalism is our effort to find
acceptance with God or others on the basis of our conformity to a set of rules,
practices or teachings. We try to fit in based on our own effort. Self-righteousness is very
similar to legalism. We think we deserve something because “we have slaved for
him all these years.” When someone we judge as being less worthy than us gets
favored treatment, we say, “It’s not
fair.”
Pride:
Pride
seeks to place us in control, to resist our dependency on God. We pretend to be better than we are. We
act religious and holy, but we know that what is going on inside is a different
story.
Judgements:
We
are told in Scriptures not to judge (this refers to unrighteous judgements, not
instances of discernment or recognizing right from wrong, good from evil.) We
can lock someone up in a prison by thinking, “That is the way they are they
will never change.” By labeling others, we give ourselves a reason to withdraw
from the relationship. The prison walls
we build are really built to protect ourselves.”
Fear:
The older brother in the story of the
Parodical son, the older brother is afraid; he is not secure in his
relationship with God. He doesn’t understand that his relationship is based not on what he does but on God’s love. Fear is the root cause for us to need to be in control.
Self-pity:
We
want people’s compassion and sympathy more than we want to be free, more than
we want to move on and place our trials behind us.
If we
let go of our self-pity we have to face that we are responsible for our own
lives.
Bitterness and Unforgiveness:
Whenever
we respond to life’s pains apart from the love of God, we become bitter inside.
We devour the poison of bitterness into our bodies, opening the door to
sickness, instead of releasing forgiveness and mercy to others. We build walls
of protection around ourselves. We cling to our unforgiveness and bitterness as
if they were some kind of defense, but they are not.
Prayer:
Jesus,
I stand before your Light and I confess: _____sins___ and I repent and I
turn away from the plan of the enemy and choose to walk in the plan You have
for my life. (There is no in-between plan)
I open the door of my heart and surrender my
life to You. I believe that You died on the Cross for me and I embrace You as
my personal Lord and Savior.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.” Psalm
139:23
“Then God put him in the place of honor
at his right hand as Prince and Savior. He did this so the people of Israel
would repent of their sins and be forgiven.” Acts 5:31
Prayer:
“Lord,
I am a sinner; I come before You to tell You I am sorry for all my sins. Thank
You for giving Your life for me, that I might be forgiven and come home to You.
Please come and be Lord of my life; I want to live in your Kingdom with the
freedom as a child of God. Lead me to the deeper freedom that is found in
knowing Your love.”[14]
(Is a
choice at first, feelings come later)
When
we do not forgive, we drink the poison of bitterness that we have for the other
person.
Behaviors and Lies
I ask forgiveness for the
(fear, anger, bitterness, inferiority, rejection, rebellion, unworthiness,
worthless, shame, self-hatred, sadness) that
I have allowed in my life.
People:
Prayer:
Lord, I forgive ( name ) for
all the hurt they have caused me.
I forgive ............... (and anyone who has done things
against me or failed to do something for me)
For
all the painful words spoken over me.
For
being emotionally absent when I needed him/her.
For
all the rejection and hurt.
For
all what happened to me when I was a child.
I forgive ______ for the damage done to
my heart.
Myself:
Prayer:
I forgive myself for the anger and/or
anxiety, or have admitted that I felt inferior, have felt or have felt
humiliated, powerless, guilty or ashamed of myself.
I forgive myself that I have allowed
these behaviors and believed these lies (fear, anger, bitterness, inferiority,
rejection, rebellion, unworthiness, worthless, shame, self-hatred, sadness)
Lord
Jesus, cover all these sins with Your precious Blood and shine with Your Light
in my soul. Heal my soul Lord, so that the enemy has no more authority to enter
my life.
Cover
all these sins with Your Precious Blood and shine your Light on my soul.
Heal
my soul, Lord. Thank You Jesus!
“And he took a cup, and when he had given
thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of
you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is
poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” Matthew 26:27-28
Prayer:
“Jesus,
You died for me that I could be forgiven and the door to reconciliation with
the Father would be opened. You revealed Your love for me while I was still in
sin. You gave Your life as a holy sacrifice for me. Give me courage to forgive
and the faith to trust what You have given me, I can give to others.”[16]
Questions:
- When
you are alone with your thoughts, what kind of negative thoughts come to your
mind?
- Where
did those thoughts come from?
- Did
anyone ever speak those negative things to you?
Recognize
the lies you have believed. Words have power.
Recognize
the strategies of the enemy.
Six steps to unlocking forgiveness:[18]
1. Find
someone you trust to pray for you.
2. Begin
to praise God and thank Him.
3. When
you sense His presence, consider Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.
4. Remember
the words of Jesus: “Father forgive them – they know not what they are doing.”
5. Think
of the person that hurt you and what that person did. Let yourself feel the
pain. Forgiveness takes a deeper hold on us as we forgive from the place of
pain. To say you forgive while denying
the pain does not deal with the root.
Prayer: Once
you have gotten in touch with the pain, say out loud: “In the name of
Jesus, I forgive_______ for_______.”
6. Give
thanks to God for His Goodness and ask Him to direct your paths.
Lies about myself:
In the name of Jesus, I renounce the lie
of:
Admitting
that I felt inferior, have felt humiliated, powerless, guilty or ashamed,
fearful, bitterness, inferiority, rejection, unworthiness, worthless,
self-hatred, sadness.
That
something was wrong with me, that my life didn’t matter, that I am a victim,
that everything is my fault, that I have to be perfect to be accepted.
Lies about God:
In the name of Jesus, I renounce the lie
of:
That
God is far away, God punishes me with sickness, the thought of God makes me
afraid, God is a cruel taskmaster, He doesn’t love me, God won’t forgive me for
the things I have done, God is mad at me,
God is going to punish me, He is just like my earthly father, Satan is
as powerful as God, there is no God, There is no heaven after death, I am
reincarnating after death, God doesn’t heal today, I can’t experience God’s
love, Jesus is not both God and man, we can’t have heaven on earth, I deserve
to be punished by God.
Occult involvements:
“I ask forgiveness for and renounce all
negative inner vows and agreements that I have made with the enemy, and I break
any hold of the enemy on my life. I claim your Blood over all aspects of my
life, relationships, ministry endeavors and finances. And I remove my name off
every satanic altar or list. I thank You Father for your enduring Love, your
angelic protection, and for the fullness of Your abundant blessings in my life.
Amen.”
Prayer: “Lord
Jesus, I surrender my life to You. I trust in You.
In
the name of Jesus, I renounce Satan and all his works and empty promises.
In
the name of Jesus, I renounce selfishness, pride, lust, greed and
self-rejection and………Thank You, Jesus for giving me victory over my enemies. I
am not afraid!”[19]
Prayer:
“In
the name of Jesus, I break the power of every evil spirit that I have renounced
and I command them to leave now!”[21]
We
have been given the authority to be a child of God. To stand on and fight from
the victory Christ has won for us on the Cross. We have authority over
everything God has given us responsibility for. We can speak in the Name of
Jesus and break all the lies we have believed and command any evil spirit that
is attached to them to leave, in the name of Jesus.
Prayer:
I command in the name of Jesus,
spirit of fear, anger, bitterness, rejection, guilt, shame, death, humiliation,
powerless, inferiority, worthlessness, sadness, depression, infirmity, lust,
victim spirit and all unclean spirits to be bound and leave to where Jesus
assigns you, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
Occult involvements:
“In the name of the Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
by the power of his Cross, his Blood and his Resurrection, I lift and break and
take authority over all curses, hexes, spells, voodoo practices, witchcraft
assignments, decrees, satanic rituals, incantations and evil wishes that have
been sent my way or were passed down the generational bloodline. I break their
influence over my life by the power of the risen Lord Jesus Christ, and I
command these curses to go back to where they came from and be replaced with a
blessing.”
“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has
been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am
with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20
Prayer:
“Lord
Jesus Christ, I thank you for the gift of faith that enables me to know You are
with me even now. All authority in heaven and earth is Yours. I have nothing to
fear. I the name of Jesus, I command every evil spirit I have renounced, every
spirit behind the sins I have confessed, to leave me. Now! Thank you , Jesus,
for setting me free from the influence of evil spirits. Thank you, Father, for
sending your Son, Jesus to save me.”[22]
We
all want to be free from the things that bind and restrict our freedom but we
need to know that Jesus wants to bring us to the love of the Father – the Heart
of the Father. Deliverance is about freedom.[24]
Prayer:
We
thank you heavenly Father that we share in Your inheritance as sons and
daughters of Your Kingdom.
“My Father, thank You for sending Jesus and
showing me the way home to You. I have opened myself to You. My life is hidden
in Christ. Please bless my life. As I identify with Christ, I, too can hear
your Words spoken over me: “You are my son/daughter, whom I love: with you I am
well pleased.” In Christ I receive this
blessing- and every spiritual blessing You have for me. Thank You, Father, for
knitting me together in my Mother’s womb, for calling me by name and for having
a special plan for my future, Your works are wonderful!”[25]
God
intended family life, patterns of prayer and the sacraments to serve as walls
of protection against the enemy and to be a source of blessing to us. But many
of the protective walls have been torn down, and we can look at our lives and
see the effects of the thief, who has come to “rob and steal.”[26]
“When
we ask for God’s blessing, we’re not asking for more of what we could get for
ourselves. We are crying out for wonderful, unlimited goodness that only God
has the power to know about or give us.
When you asked to be blessed “you’re praying for exactly what God
desires. Suddenly the unhindered forces of heaven can begin to accomplish God’s
perfect will – through you.”[27]
“For
we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do
the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10
Colossians 1:12-13
“Giving joyful thanks to the
Father, who has made us worthy to
share in the inheritance of
his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and brought us
into the kingdom of the Son he loves.”
“Jesus, You have already won the victory
over evil. Open our eyes to all things that blind us. Come and deliver us, help
us to be aware of our authority over evil spirits that You have granted us at
our Baptism. Amen.”[28]
